“At Trilogy, we treat our Memory Care residents with the same love and respect that we would expect for our own loved ones,” said Barney. “That means being there to support them through events like the Walk to End Alzheimer’s that bring us closer to a brighter future.”

“I have lost two grandparents, one each side of my family to dementia. It is so hard to see your loved ones change from the person you knew. I’m blessed to make a career out of helping many families who have a loved one with the disease. It’s important to be able to relate to their struggles, provide support, whether it’s through sharing resources, formulating a plan or being a source of encouragement. I’m honored to be part of the committee for the Louisville Walk to End Alzheimer’s and excited to again, be part of the mission to see a survivor holding the white flower.”

“Sadly, I have seen so many amazing people suffer from dementia, including my own grandmother. I have had the pleasure of working with seniors and their families for over 20 years. I love my jobs because of the people I work with & help. I want to continue to raise awareness about the disease and help families who are taking care of a loved one with Alzheimer’s. I am honored to be a part of the The Walk to End Alzheimer’s planning committee and hope to get more of our community involved.”

My interest in the Alzheimer’s Association began in my college days and has continued into my professional life even 20 years later. As I work in the field of aging, supporting families and their loved ones with Alzheimer’s disease has been a true passion of mine. I have volunteered for the Association for several years as a family caregiver support group leader as well as serving on our area’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s committee.  More personally, I lost my grandmother and aunt to the disease which spurs me on to continued support and research for all those affected.

My grandparents; but mostly my grandpa. My hero, biggest fan, cheerleader and most admired person ever. My grandparents raised me, with a tremendous work ethic; I was taught I could be & do anything. I became my grandpa’s caregiver after his cognitive changes from hip surgery that never returned after. I cared for him making sure he was still engaged in a meaningful way despite the disease. I’ve carried the concept throughout my career hoping to educate and train caregivers to provide the best care for those battling the disease. I’m grateful to serve with an organization with the same values and mission to end Alzheimer’s and all other dementia.
