Social Engagement Programs

SPEED ART MUSEUM in Louisville, KY

Every month, on the second Saturday, the Speed Art Museum in partnership with the Greater Kentucky and Southern Indiana Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association offers a free workshop to people impacted by dementia and their loved ones, caregivers, or care professionals.

The hope is to get families in the community out to engage with others who are diagnosed with the disease and feel part of a community, fighting isolation. While the disease has a ripple effect, it often leaves the people it impacts feeling lonely and depressed.

The program offers attendees a tour of an exhibit selected by Speed Art Museum staff, who are also trained as Social Engagement Leaders, through the Alzheimer’s Association. During the tour of the exhibit, the attendees get to engage with the staff and others in an environment that offers creativity and engaging artwork. The second part of the program, the attendees are escorted to a classroom, and its their turn to bring their creativity to life through hands-on arts and crafts!
